Today is the best day ever. Theo and his mom and dad are getting a puppy! They drive to the animal shelter to find one.

So many puppies are there! Then one little brown puppy with floppy ears looks up. She wags her tail just for Theo. “I will call you Biscuit,” he says.

Biscuit is soft and warm and wiggly. Theo holds her close all the way home.

She licks him right on the nose. Theo laughs and laughs. “I will take good care of you,” he promises.

But a puppy is a lot of work! Biscuit chews up a shoe. She has an accident on the rug.

At night, Biscuit cries and cries. Theo is very tired. Taking care of a puppy is hard.

So Theo learns to take care of her. He fills her water bowl every day. He takes her on walks.

He teaches her to sit. “Sit, Biscuit,” he says. It takes treats and lots of patience.

Little by little, Biscuit learns. One day, she sits all by herself!

“Good girl, Biscuit!” Theo cheers. Now she even sleeps in her own cozy bed.

That night, Biscuit climbs into Theo's lap. She curls up and falls fast asleep.

Taking care of a puppy is hard work, Theo thinks. But Biscuit is not just a puppy. She is his best friend.
