Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded and re-encoded locally in your browser using the built-in canvas — nothing is uploaded. Once the page has loaded you can go offline and it still works. You can confirm it yourself in your browser's Network tab: no image data leaves the page while you convert.

Which conversions are supported?

Any-to-any between the three most common web formats: PNG, JPG (JPEG), and WebP. That covers PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, PNG to WebP, WebP to PNG, JPG to WebP, and WebP to JPG. Drop a batch of mixed formats and they all convert to the one target you pick.

Why does a transparent PNG turn black when I convert it to JPG?

That's the classic gotcha: JPG has no transparency, so on most tools the see-through pixels become black. This converter avoids it by painting a background colour behind the image first — white by default, or any colour you choose — so the transparent areas come out clean instead of black. Convert to PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep the transparency.

Will converting lose quality?

PNG is lossless, so converting to PNG never loses quality (it can make photos larger, though). JPG and WebP are lossy: use the quality slider to trade file size against fidelity — around 90% is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos. You see the before-and-after size on every file.

What about AVIF?

AVIF isn't offered yet. Browser support for encoding AVIF from a canvas is still limited to Chrome, so shipping it now would fail silently on Safari and Firefox. We'd rather offer the three formats that convert reliably everywhere than a fourth that only works in one browser. It's on the list for when support is broad.

Is there a limit, and does it work on mobile?

You can convert a batch at once with no account or paywall. Very large images are capped only to keep the browser tab from running out of memory — the vast majority of photos are well under that limit. It runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, and keeps working offline once loaded.

How do I convert a WebP image to JPG or PNG?

Drop the WebP file, choose JPG or PNG as the target, and download the converted image — handy when something saved as WebP won't open in an app that expects a JPG or PNG. It goes the other way too (JPG or PNG to WebP), and everything converts in your browser with no upload.
