  Migri accepts exactly three pairs of YKI subtests — Speaking + Writing, Listening + Writing, or Reading + Speaking — each needing grade 3 in both skills, with no compensation between them. The app scores your best accepted pair rather than an average of four, and names the subtest worth the most next — speaking sits in two of the three pairs — so your effort goes where it opens the most paths.

  Alongside the language test it practises the civics test that applies to citizenship applications filed on or after 1 March 2027: Parliament, the Government and the President, the wellbeing services counties, fundamental rights, equality, the national languages and history — in the multiple-choice and true/false formats the test uses.

  Because the exam is in Finnish, every question is too, with a translation underneath that you can hide with one tap or set to appear only when you ask (you pick the language in Settings). Reading practice is grouped by the kind of everyday text the exam uses — notices from the library, the health centre, the school, transport — not an invented difficulty ladder.

  Honest, estimated grades — never an invented pass mark

  Grades in the app are estimates from your own practice and are labelled as such — only a real YKI certificate carries a grade. Where an official threshold is not published, the app says “estimated” rather than inventing a pass mark, so a screen never reads as “nearly there” when the real rule would award nothing.

  Optional sign-in syncs your progress across phones

  You can use the free content with no account at all. If you sign in with Google, your practice history is saved so it survives a lost or changed phone — tied to an account identifier, not your name. You can delete that account and the saved progress from inside the app at any time.

Why the exam rule trips people up

Finnish citizenship needs two things proved — your Finnish and your knowledge of Finnish society — and the language rule is the part most people get wrong. Migri does not accept any four good results; it accepts exactly three pairs of YKI subtests, each needing grade 3 in both skills, with no compensation between them, so a 6 beside a 2 counts as a 2. Finnish Exam is built around that real rule: it scores your best accepted pair rather than an average of four, and points you at the subtest that opens the most paths next.

What is the Finnish Exam app?

Finnish Exam is a study app for the two things a Finnish citizenship application asks you to prove: your Finnish, through the YKI intermediate test, and your knowledge of Finnish society, through the new citizenship (civics) test. You practise both in one place, with every question in Finnish.

Which YKI subtest combinations count for Finnish citizenship?

Migri accepts exactly three pairs, and each needs grade 3 in both skills: Speaking + Writing, Listening + Writing, or Reading + Speaking. Reading + Listening and Reading + Writing are not accepted. There is no compensation between subtests, so the app scores your best accepted pair's weaker skill rather than an average of four.

Does it cover the new Finnish citizenship test?

Yes. Are the questions in Finnish or in my own language?

Does the app tell me whether I will pass?

No — and that is deliberate. Grades in the app are estimates from your own practice and are clearly labelled as estimates; only a real YKI certificate carries a grade. Where an official pass mark is not published, the app says “estimated” rather than inventing a threshold.

Do I need an account, and is the app free?

The free content works with no account and offline. Signing in is optional and only syncs your progress across phones. Some content is premium, available by subscription; people who have not subscribed see ads, and in the EU and UK you are asked about ad personalisation first and can change it any time in Settings.

Is this an official government app?

No. Finnish Exam is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH), the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), or the Government of Finland, and practising here produces no certificate or qualification.
